Why Simply Saying “We’re All Black” is an Obstacle to Unity

Is reacting to colorism conversations with “We’re All Black” the same as reacting to racism conversations with “All Lives Matter”?

I think so.

Even Black people, sometimes, have a tendency to want to ignore the differences that exist among us.

Yes, we’re all Black, but we all experience Blackness differently based on other aspects of our identity.

Unity requires us to acknowledge and address the places where we’re fractured.

Like athletes, we can’t expect to win the game against racism and white supremacy if we don’t heal our injury of colorism.
